Winter Wave Photo Showdown

The pacific winter is brewing up some monster storms and is getting ready to send us some of the biggest waves we’ll see all year, and for some people, the biggest waves they’ll ever see.

We encourage you to get out there this winter and photograph these winter storm waves and enter them into this contest for prizes in a range of unique categories including: BIG, BIGGER, BIGGEST.

BIG WAVE PHOTOSHOW 

Black Rock Resort will host the event in early March as part of the Pacific Rim Whale Festival.

For the show, chosen contestants must be willing to reproduce their photo for display as an 11”x14” print, matted and framed to 16×20 in a Gallery style show, as the community comes out and votes by ballot for the overall BIGGEST photographed waves of the winter.

Contest Rules

  1. Photographers can submit a maximum of 3 photos for entry into the contest– submissions must be either 4×6 prints, or digital in jpeg format (max 3.0MB), image must be wave(s) only, taken from land w/ valid date, location, the name of photographer, and 50 words or less to describe and distinguish the photo.
  2. All contestants must sign the contest entry and photo release agreement forms at the Ucluelet Chamber of Commerce office at Whiskey Landing and pay a $5 fee per entry up to 3.
  3. All photos must be taken within the Ucluelet and Tofino boundaries.
  4. All photos must be original.  No previously published photos, Photoshop manipulated, or photos containing inappropriate content will be accepted. 
  5. Submitted photos may be used in local and regional advertising upon permission from, and with due credit to the photographer.  Photos chosen for the Top 40 BigWave Photoshow may be used by a sponsoring company upon permission from, and with due credit to the photographer.

To enter, drop by the downtown Visitor Information center and sign the official contest entry form – cost is $5 per entry to a maximum of 3. (Entry fees will go towards a yet to be determined cash prize or combination of prizes.) Then submit your photos as 4×6 prints or digitally.
